Are Veneers Expensive?

My Surgery Guide
Nov 5, 2021

Veneers seem like the ideal choice for people looking for that perfect smile. They’re got a brilliant white color, they stay perfectly straight, and they might resolve any self-confidence issues one might have arising from their current smile.

But whenever the topic of getting cosmetic veneers is brought up, price always seems to be on everyone’s minds. How much do veneers cost? How much do veneers cost to replace? Is the cost of veneers worth it?

Today, we’re going to break down the price of cosmetic veneers so you can get a better idea of how much getting veneers costs.

What’s the initial cost of veneers?

Depending on the type of veneer, the price can range from $600 to $2500 per tooth.

However, these simple prices don’t tell the whole story. While you have 28 teeth in your mouth (not counting your wisdom teeth), cosmetic veneers tend not to cover all of your teeth — just the select few that are visible when you talk or smile.

That tends to be 8 upper teeth and 6 lower teeth. Do a little math, and that puts the price for cosmetic veneers between $8,400 and $35,000.

But that still doesn’t tell the whole story. Veneers are not permanent, and depending on the veneer, you’ll need to replace your veneers every 5 to 20 years.

How much do veneers cost to replace?

Using a baseline of 14 veneers, here’s time and price breakdown over the course of 30 years for each type of veneer:

Porcelain veneers: Can last 20 years or more

At an initial cost of between $12,950 and $35,000 for the initial application, you will most likely have to replace your veneers once over the course of 30 years.

This puts the 30 year price between $25,900 and $70,000 — an annual cost between $863 and $2,333.

Composite resin veneers: Last between 5 and 7 years

The initial cost of composite resin veneers is between $8,400 and $21,000. Replaced once every six years, that means around 5 replacements over the course of 30 years.

That means the 30 year price between $42,000 and $126,000 — an annual cost between $1,400 and $4,200.

Lumineers: Last up to 10 years

The initial price for lumineers is between $11,200 and $28,000. As they can last up to 10 years, you’re probably looking at around 3 replacements over the course of 30 years.

So over 30 years, the price is between $33,600 and $84,000 — an annual cost between $1,120 and $2,800.

Can you get veneers on a budget?

The simple answer is no.

Veneers are a complicated procedure; your teeth need to be filed down and capped, which takes skill, time, and effort, not counting the actual cost of the veneer material itself.

If you simply want straighter, whiter teeth, there are plenty of options.

For teeth straightening, there are options like braces or invisible aligners.

For teeth whitening, you can find whitening strips at your local supermarket or drugstore. If you want a more dramatic whitening, there are also specialists that work specifically on teeth whitening whom you can see to improve your smile.

Are veneers worth it?

From the above price breakdown, you can see that porcelain veneers are the best deal at an annual cost between $863 and $2,333. They are also frequently considered to look the most natural and irritate the gums the least.

So are veneers expensive? It depends on your budget and specialist, but overall, it’s safe to say that veneers are a substantial investment.

Before you pursue veneers, it’s important to understand the price and investment of both time and money. If you’re comfortable with that, amazing — we look forward to seeing your new smile!
